Ultrasonic Mist Maker Module: Build a DIY Humidifier That Runs

Cartoon of a large ultrasonic mist maker disc with a bright sky-blue ceramic ring and dark grey mesh centre set in a translucent white silicone gasket, red and black leads running to a small white two-pin plug, a white mist plume rising from its centre above a shallow bowl of pale teal water with a white cotton wick leaning up to touch it, and the small green driver board at the lower right

An ultrasonic mist maker is a piezo-driven plate full of micro-holes, and the water it atomises is also its only coolant. Here is how the plate and its 108 kHz driver work, why a dry plate dies permanently, and how to switch the module’s own 5 V supply from an Arduino with a relay and a water-level cut-off instead of driving it from a pin.
